I am not a superstitious person.\u00a0 I do believe in fate, karma and luck though.\u00a0 But I believe\u00a0each person\u00a0can control and create one’s path.\u00a0 I am not a fan of people just throwing up their arms and saying it “isn’t my fault’, it must be xxxxxxx.\u00a0\u00a0 That just seems like an excuse.\u00a0 Sure some of the time you can’t change the outcome.\u00a0 But you do have an influence.\u00a0\u00a0 People create good karma.\u00a0 People make their own luck.\u00a0 People control more than they believe.<\/p>\n

Friday the 13th.\u00a0 I started to research the origins and such of this phobia.\u00a0 But quickly got tired of it.\u00a0 I just am not interested in how it got started but that some people get paralyzed by it.\u00a0\u00a0 The number 13 just seems to freak out many people.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I used to travel a lot.\u00a0 My schedule would change at a moment’s notice and I would have to make new reservations.\u00a0 I ended up in a lot of ROW 13 seats on planes because I would fly stand-by.\u00a0 It’s funny, even people who are not afraid of 13, probably would not select that row number on a plane.\u00a0\u00a0 Many hotels don’t even have a 13th floor.\u00a0 But I have also found that if they do, it is usually the last to fill up.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Triskaidekaphobi<\/a>a is the fear of the number 13.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many years ago, I was on a flight out of Atlanta.\u00a0 It was on Eastern Airlines<\/a>.\u00a0 Eastern is long gone and this was near the end of their existence.\u00a0 It was Friday the 13th.\u00a0 I was in row 13.\u00a0 The weather was horrible and lightening lit up the skies.\u00a0 I was reading my USA TODAY and came across an article about the problems Eastern was having with their mechanics and that many safety rules were being overlooked.\u00a0 Basically there was not enough people to do all the checks required and keep the planes running on schedule.\u00a0\u00a0 As I was reading the piece, BOOM, the plane was hit by lightening and we dropped a few thousand feet.\u00a0 I remember clearly being a few inches above my seat.\u00a0 My stomach was in my throat.\u00a0\u00a0 Passengers were screaming.\u00a0\u00a0 Probably the scariest flight I have ever been on.\u00a0\u00a0 But we made it OK and landed safely.\u00a0\u00a0 I figure if I made it through that, then the number 13 would be OK with me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
