Kindles<\/a> they have sold.\u00a0\u00a0 A recent analyst projects there will be 5-million sold in 2010; 7.5-million in 2011 and 11.5-million in 2012.\u00a0 WOW!\u00a0\u00a0 It all adds up to almost 25-million Kindles in a few years.\u00a0\u00a0 Even if he is way over, conservative estimates have at least 15-million sold.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n

This is not a commercial for Amazon.\u00a0\u00a0 But they have made it very easy to read eBooks.\u00a0 They continue to push publishers to add content.\u00a0\u00a0 They keep pushing the price of eReaders down.\u00a0\u00a0 The downside?\u00a0 Kindle is a closed system.\u00a0 To read books on Kindle, one must buy books on Kindle.\u00a0 The other systems are open and don’t force a device on the reader.\u00a0\u00a0 Will this change?\u00a0\u00a0 No one knows, but I am hopeful.<\/p>\n

Amazon had 93% market share a few years ago.\u00a0\u00a0 They essentially created the current eBook market.\u00a0\u00a0 They have remained steady in believing in eBooks.\u00a0\u00a0 Their share is down to 60-70% (although the market is much greater so their business is healthier).\u00a0 With increased competition, their share will probably move south of 50%.\u00a0\u00a0 At that time, maybe they will open up?<\/p>\n
